Chain of Custody Policy

Howe Sound Pulp and Paper Limited Partnership (HSLP) is committed to environmentally-sound business practices.  To this end, HSLP has established a Chain of Custody (CoC) system that provides a linkage between certified forests and the raw material we use in our manufacturing process.

We are able to provide the assurance to our customers that we will:

  • Track the origin of our certified fibre from harvest through to procurement, delivery and consumption at our mill.

  • Track and record the volume of certified fibre from forests certified by either:

    • Canadian Standards Association (CSA Z809)

    • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

    • Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)

  • Track and record the volume of non-certified fibre and ensure that, at a minimum, no fibre used at our mill originates from controversial sources.  This means that all wood fibre must:

  • Be harvested in Canada or the United States

  • Originate from a legal and authorized source

  • Contain only those arboreal species not classified as endangered by CITES

  • Maintain a Management System for the tracking of the fibre that conforms to PEFC standards.  This includes annual audits and management reviews to ensure the controls and documentation are effective and maintained.

  • Provide information to any interested parties regarding the ratio of certified fibre used in our manufacturing process.
